TRAVELLING • VALENCIA, SPAIN

Already a while ago, in spring, I went to Valencia in Spain. As always I just want to show some photos of my experience there. It was very lovely and it is a beautiful city. The weather was extremely hot and I actually don't really enjoy hotness. Nonetheless, the summer feelings were definitely present, which I enjoyed a lot.

❄ A Day Out In The Snow ❄

Spring is already approaching, so it was time to get into the snow one last time. It was the perfect day with lots of sun and fresh snow. There were hardly any people, so we could really enjoy a piece of untouched nature - a sight one rarely gets these days. On days like these, one really stops thinking about everyday issues and can just appreciate the beautiful scenery. It just amazes me every time how unbelievably beautiful our earth is.

Motivational Monday ♡

Staying in tune with my New Year's resolution to stay motivated and positive, I want to start Motivational Monday
For Christmas I got this great calendar from Flow where you have a motivating quote everyday. This first monday of the new year, it was the following:

I think this quote is very relevant to my situation since I always worry so much that I totally miss out what is actually going on in the present. I thus want to change that and live in the moment. Simultaneously I want to set up some clear goals at the beginning of each week as well. For the most part this will be things like: smile more, read a book, go outside for a walk or hike... While setting up this list, I can focus on what I want to do but afterwards I want to enjoy all the precious moments of life ♡

New Year • New Beginnings

Today is the first day of a new year, the year 2015. The following 365 days are unwritten pages just waiting to be filled. This is the time where people set up new resolutions trying to create a better self for the next year. It's quite the cliché and one could assert that no one ever really goes through with them. Of course, you can always try to change yourself for the better regardless of what day it is and this is important to bear in mind at all times! You should live every single day to its fullest and everyday brings new opportunities and chances!

Nonetheless, I am a firm believer that the start of a new year can be a great motivator. Moreover, since I'm starting a new internship in a few days and just finished my master's degree, the new year really feels like a total fresh start. I thus still thought it to be good idea to put some New Year's resolutions together but I tried to keep them limited to a few (I admit I was slightly inspired by Penny from Girl Online).

There's one very specific and the other two are more general how I'd like my attitude to change a bit. I'm quite anxious about what the future will bring but I'm sure it will be an exciting year:)

First Vegan Christmas ❄ Personal

For this post, I just wanna share my experience during Christmas which was my first as a vegan. And since we always spend Christmas with family coming from abroad, this could have been quite a challenge. So for a whole week we were 8 people spending 24/7 with each other and I'm the only vegan (and even vegetarian). I still remember last Christmas when I actually wanted to become a vegan but quite frankly, I didn't have the guts to really tell anyone... I had already quite transitioned during the week when I live at uni. However, I was really afraid of my parents and other family members' reaction. I have been a vegetarian for three years and everyone was very supportive of it. But my mum was always very concerned with my health would constantly tell me to eat eggs and yoghurt so I would get my "protein". However, this year I finally managed to tell my parents and everything turned out fine.

This year's Christmas was really nice and my mum was soooo lovely. She always took care that I would have something special to eat as well. She even got me vegan raclette and fondue cheese which is a Swiss tradition that we always eat during Christmas. She also made sure I had vegan dessert which was so lovely. I also found it nice that many of the family members also ate some vegan things like cake, different soups, "chicken" nuggets or wipped cream my mum made for me and they really liked it. They still had meat or fish though... But I really can't force other people to eat vegan with me.

What I also found really interesting is that I didn't have any cravings for non-vegan foods. During Christmas non-vegan foods can be pretty much be shoved down your throat. Normally, I'm not that exposed to meat or fish since my parents don't really eat it anymore at all when I'm home. In addition to a lot of meat, during Christmas there are also lots of cookies but I didn't feel like eating them at all. I had of course also baked some vegan cookies so I was all settled for the first few days. They also ate eggs quite a lot and I was so obsessed with eggs before I went vegan. I think I ate eggs daily on my sandwiches or as an omelette. But now I really really really didn't feel any longing to have some eggs. This really surprised because in the beginning of my transition I still had a lot of cravings for things like cheese, milk chocolate (especially Kinder Schokolade), cookies and a lot of other stuff. However, I'm totally over that now which made me so happy!!

With regards to gifts, there was only one little issue when my aunt gave me some perfume and body lotion from Versace. I accepted it but during the week she realised how strict I was with my vegan lifestyle and that I normally don't use any non-vegan beauty products anymore. So she offered that I could give it to my mum and get something else instead. I was very happy about that offer and I accepted to give it to my mum so it would at least be used. But I didn't feel like getting anything in return since she had already given me other presents.

So all in all, this Christmas was reeeally nice and really uncomplicated with regards to my vegan lifestyle. I was really apprehensive beforehand but everything turned out just fine!!!

I'm really glad to go back to healthy eating now since I did have quite a few "cheat" meals:)

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas.
